Biography

Dr. Lori Perez is an Assistant Professor in ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½’s School of Legal Studies, where she developed and serves as Coordinator of the Conservation Law Program. She teaches courses in crisis intervention, wildlife trafficking, wildlife law, conservation law enforcement, criminal procedure, and other areas of criminal justice and conservation law. She also has led experiential learning trips for students, including trips to Alaska, Costa Rica, and Yellowstone National Park.

Dr. Perez earned her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, with research focused on occupational and organizational stress among conservation law enforcement officers. Her scholarship also includes quantitative research comparing prosecutorial outcomes in Maine Title 12 conservation cases with Title 17-A criminal cases. In recognition of her research and contributions to conservation law enforcement, she received the Maine Warden Service Colonel’s Award. She has also served as a peer reviewer for the Stanford Law Review.

Before joining ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½, Dr. Perez served as Director and Professor of the Conservation Law Enforcement Program at Unity College and as Interim Dean of the School of Biodiversity and Conservation.

Prior to entering higher education, Dr. Perez was a Federal Law Enforcement Officer with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, serving throughout the eastern United States with additional assignments in Iowa and Nebraska. As a member of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and a designated EMT, she spent two years assigned to presidential security operations for President George W. Bush. Her field experience also included disaster response during Hurricane Katrina and service as a certified Type II Wildland Firefighter, assisting with prescribed burns and western wildfire response. Dr. Perez completed her federal law enforcement training through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) and holds a Full-Time Law Enforcement Certification from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

Outside of her professional work, Dr. Perez enjoys spending time outdoors with her family.
