Our online bachelor’s degree in psychology offers you several opportunities to expand your skill set and focus on specific career paths that fit your talents and interests. Courses you will take in the online BS in Psychology Program

Through our online bachelor's degree in psychology, you'll take courses that give you a deep understanding of how the human mind works and what can be done to maintain its well-being. You'll also be able to focus your coursework on the sub-fields of psychology that interest you, such as clinical or counseling psychology, forensic psychology, psychology of learning, trauma and resiliency, mind-body connection and others. 

Coursework builds a working knowledge of human behavior and the research methods psychologists use to study it, from experimental design to statistics.

Some of the online psychology classes you can take at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ include:

MH 202 Mind-Body Connection

This course emphasizes the assisting of consumers of mental health services in accessing whole health, integrated care. You'll learn how developing an understanding of the mind-body connection can help those with chronic health conditions, mental health and substance use disorders, medication needs, stress, and other factors affecting wellness. This course is one of eight courses required for eligibility for MHRT/C certification.

PY 231 Social Psychology

Through this course, you'll explore how the behavior, beliefs and perceptions of individuals are impacted by social interactions with other individuals and groups of people. You'll also examine classic research on social influence and perception. For example, you may look at what causes bullying in schools, why certain stereotypes exist or why certain types of people like or dislike each other. Throughout this course, you'll be introduced to several concepts that provide understanding of the world in new ways. 

PY 335 Behavioral, Psychological and Rehabilitation Intervention Mod

 

This course provides a basic foundation for understanding the importance of establishing rapport, communicating effectively and respectfully, and working collaboratively with consumers of mental health services. It also covers providing care to support recovery with an awareness of the changing needs consumers have across the lifespan. This course is one of eight courses required for eligibility for MHRT/C certification. It is strongly recommended that you complete PY113 & PY232 prior to enrolling in this course.

PY 447 Trauma and Resiliency

You'll examine the theory and methodology of sexual abuse, non-sexual trauma and the effects of trauma. You'll also learn about awareness of abuse, recognizing the sources of trauma and developing a recovery plan through the use of available resources for prevention and treatment in the State of Maine.

Jessica Y. Hacker, Ph.D

Jessica Hacker.jpg

Jessica Y. Hacker joined the faculty of ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ in August, 2023 as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. Dr. Hacker earned her BS in Psychology and MS in Research Psychology at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga before earning her PhD in Cognitive and Brain Sciences at Louisiana State University. Her primary research interests are metamemory, cognitive control, and prospective memory. She is primarily interested in how individuals leverage their cognitive abilities to support memory functioning. Her dissertation titled, “Effects of Task-switching on Proactive Control and Metamemory Regulation” examined how shifting attention between two different tasks affected individuals ability to both engage in proactive cognitive control and to predict their memory performance. Dr. Hacker has a special interest in mentoring scholars and looks forward to teaching a variety of courses at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½.
